Mayson recently completed her first year at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. At law school, she serves as a representative of the University of Toronto Business Law Society and Vice-President of Communications for the Indigenous Law Students’ Association. Mayson also serves as an Indigenous mentor with the Faculty of Law’s Indigenous Initiatives Office, where she supports Indigenous undergraduate students navigating the law school application process. In her first year, Mayson volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada at a drop-in legal information clinic, supporting vulnerable individuals. Prior to law school, she earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University. Mayson received several awards for strong academic performance, including the D.I. McLeod Dean’s List Scholarship for three consecutive years. During her undergraduate studies, Mayson served as a Senior Editor for the Queen’s Business Review, leading the business strategy portfolio, and as the Marketing Director of the Queen’s Consulting Association. She also contributed to the Queen’s Social Business Initiative, a student-led non-profit that provides pro bono consulting and financial services to small businesses. Mayson completed internships in audit and assurance at a global professional services firm, and in corporate finance at the Ontario Securities Commission. Mayson is of Algonquin-Métis heritage and actively participates in Indigenous-led initiatives. She has worked as a case aide for Nogdawindamin, an Indigenous non-profit in Northern Ontario, and volunteered for Anishnabeg Outreach, tutoring Indigenous primary school students in math and English. Outside of work and school, Mayson enjoys weightlifting, the outdoors and karaoke.
